Updated News from the National Trust regarding maintenance and cleaning work on Corfe Castle Common.
Scrub cutting and Bonfires
Contractors, rangers and volunteers will be cutting and burning scum on West, Little East and Middle Common throughout the Autumn and Winter. This work will improve the river environment of the Wicken for aquatic plants, and target wetland features enhancing them for rare damselflies and a wide diversity of plants such as March Lousewort. It will also focus on breaking up larger blocks of gorse and widening path, please be alert to machinery such as excavators and tractors operating on the site.Prescribed burning.
This winter the National Trust staff and volunteers will be burning areas of gorse in the southern half of West Common. This is to maintain good breeding habitat for birds and prevent the further spread of gorse into open grassland
