Clavell Tower Open Days

Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 September 2021 – 10am to 4pm

We are opening this Landmark in association with Heritage Open Days. Entry is free but your visit must be pre-booked.

This four storey, circular tower stands high on the cliff above Kimmeridge Bay overlooking one of the most striking bays on the Dorset coast. Here is the Jurassic Coast, England’s first natural World Heritage Site, and the South West Coastal Path runs past the door. Built in 1830 Clavell Tower’s location has captivated many including writers like Hardy and PD James.

Free Admission and leaflets on the building’s history.

PLEASE NOTE – There is no parking in the village at all. The Smedmore Estate on whose land Clavell Tower stands has a parking area which costs £5.00 for the day and this give access to the coast line and to the property. Once parked, Clavell Tower can only be reached on foot up a steep coastal path.

Please note that due to the nature of our historic buildings and places, some may not be suitable for those with limited mobility or certain disabilities. We do all we can to enable access wherever possible; if you have any access concerns that you’d like to discuss before visiting, please contact our Booking Enquiries team on 01628 825925.
