The ‘Library Talks’ Return with an Afternoon of Local Archive films.
The series of ‘Talks in the Library’ return in September (but note that they are not always in the library!). We kick off with Purbeck in the Past on Film on October 15th 2021 at 2.00pm in the village hall.
The first half of the 20th century was a period of enormous change across the country. Fortunately, a surprising amount of Purbeck life was recorded on film during the 1930s and 40s. This event is an opportunity to view some of these films. Featured among the films to be shown are farming in Church Knowle and the transition from horses to machines also, Corfe Castle and the artists who lived and worked here in the 1930s. Excerpts of a film made in the 2000s show changes to a location that everyone in the village will be familiar with but may have missed! The intention is that as well as being of local interest, the films will also spark the recollections of those present and some discussion.
This was postponed way back at the beginning of Covid-19. The event will be held in the village hall, so we can make use of the new projection facilities. We can’t be sure what Covid-19 precautions will be in force (or just be sensible to have) by October, so please register for this event via email to corfecastlelibrary@gmail.com or via the library.
