Iron Age Family Activity Weekend – RSPB Arne

Travel back in time for the day &  join our Iron Age tribe! See our roundhouse, try your hand at ancient techniques and enjoy a tasty BBQ.

Celebrate this August Bank Holiday weekend at RSPB’s Arne nature reserve taking part in interactive Iron Age activities with the Ancient Technology Centre. Saturday, Sunday & Monday, 10am – 4pm, last entry 2pm.

Step back through the centuries, nearly 3,000 years, in our traditional heathland homestead. Get your hands dirty using clay & straw to help ‘daub’ our traditional heathland roundhouse walls. Try your hand at rope making, willow weaving and creating paint using pigments sourced from nature. Hear amazing tales drawn from local Purbeck folklore and Celtic mythology. Watch the energy, passion, and humour of our living historian blacksmith Big Beynon – sparks will fly!

For an extra charge, grab your lunch at the BBQ, run by our fantastic cafe – featuring locally-sourced meat, veggie sausages and treat yourself to a cold drink.

Part of the Green Recovery Project and funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Your ticket includes: access to a ‘closed’ area of the reserve for the Iron Age homestead, free parking at RSPB Arne (usually £7/vehicle) and access to the public trails at RSPB Arne.

Adult non-RSPB member: £12.50
Children under 16 FREE

+ Eventbrite booking fee, non-members parking included in the ticket for the duration of the event only.

Directions to the Iron Age homestead will be provide by the Welcome Area staff & volunteers in the car park at RSPB Arne.
